Let's try to get caught up this time. I spent the day in Oviedo on Saturday. It was a nice day to just sit back and relax. I slept in for the first time in I don't know how long, then went to get lunch at a Japanese buffet in the Modoo mall. This is an old picture, but it's worth posting just so you can understand why the people call it the "spaceship mall." Ate so much food there, I really thought I was going to be sick.
After that, I went back home for a few hours to take a nap, and then went out to see Yerma, a Spanish play. The Campoamor Theater is so awesome! It brings amazing shows to Oviedo, and people come from all over Spain and even other parts of Europe just to see the ballet, opera, or plays there. I'm actually considering going to the ballet tonight. But, it was definitely a bit difficult to understand the play as it was going, but I think I was able to get most of it. If nothing else, it was for sure a good experience for me to be able to sit and listen to Spanish for two hours.
Sunday brought an adventure to Gijon. It is even bigger than Oviedo, but not quite as cool in my opinion. It was awesome to spend a day there exploring, though. Prior to that I had only been to the aquarium. Just in that one day, I was able to go visit the Termas Romanas, a photography exhibit, and the Baroja Museum. It was nice to just walk through the city, too, and walk up the huge hill to see the old fort overlooking the coast. The wind was so strong it made the beach basically unbearable, but it was definitely pretty to look at.
Monday was a nice, rainy day. I was talking to someone not too long about how it rains a lot here, but I have yet to have an experience of pouring rain. Well, I've seen it now! I ended up sitting at La Corte de Pelayo for quite a while with a good group of people after my venture to the police station earlier in the day. I had a pretty nice view of El Campo de San Francisco, which is possibly even prettier in the rain.
After that, we moved on to Gascona. I took a quick pit stop for some white chocolate ice cream, which was amazing by the way. We ended up meeting quite a few people on Gascona, and since it was freezing went to Sidreria Asturias. Not a bad idea to have an enclosed eating area in a place where it rains a lot. We ended up there for a few hours just talking about stuff. It was definitely an interesting way to spend the night.
Unfortunately, I spent most of the day yesterday doing homework. I really haven't had a ton of homework up to this point, but my teachers were nice enough to all assign a good load on the same day. I guess I am here for school ultimately, though, so I probably shouldn't complain too much about actually having to do homework. No pictures worthy of posting.
I'm embarking on a dessert tour of Oviedo tonight, so expect great stories in my next post!
